Gallery --> Gobi Desert

Gobi - Asia's largest desert - is located on the Mongolian plateau, surrounded by mountains on all sides. Despite the huge sand dunes in Khongoryn Els, most of the area consists of gravel, pebbles and barely enough vegetation to form the basis for a group of few, but tough desert nomads. Gobi is not only known for the excavations of dinosaur skeletons and dinosaur eggs. It was also here that the scene was set for the great Central Asian expeditions of the last century, several of them with the Danish explorer Henning Haslund-Christensen in the lead.
